You can also activate War cry with your own spells with AoE!

My squad has 2 barbarians with "War cry" and a bard ... a group of 2 barbarians surrounded by 5 trolls ... the bard sends an AoE dmg. spell on the group (troll + barbarian hit)(each barbarian triggers War cry = 2 additional troll hits)

dmg. to all trolls: 2d4 sonic burs(bard)... d6+5 barbarian A triggered, d6+6 barbarian B triggered

does anyone know if a non-caster magic attack (say a breath weapon, from a dragon or a winter wolf) triggers this?

I've noticed a peculiarity with War Cry. It seems to actually trigger when you are targeted, not when you take damage. Specific examples: cleric casts Sacred Flame targeting me, reaction War Cry, kills the cleric, THEN I roll a successful save, avoiding damage. Second example: Inflict Wounds casted on me, reaction War Cry, damage kills the cleric, THEN I fail my save, taking full damage.

Both of these were in the same session of play, two separate encounters, and in both I used War Cry before damage was dealt or taken. This leads me to think that it triggers when you're targeted or attacked, rather than when you're dealt damage. Perhaps it's both? E.g. Fireball would trigger as well? I haven't been hit with an AoE yet in my playthrough, so I cannot say for sure.
